Environmental protection on fingertips
Summary of the activity of "waste classification and random shooting" and the 20th environmental teahouse
"Environmental protection on fingertips" public welfare activity is an environmental protection public welfare activity launched by China Environmental Records Association and Public Environment Research Center (IPE) in 2018. Environmental teahouse has been successfully held for 19 times in the past four years, which aims to call on the general public to actively participate in ecological environment protection through online and offline activities, and call on everyone to start from themselves and join the ranks of protecting blue sky and clear water.
Promoting domestic waste classification is an important step to achieve the goal of "building a multi-level resource efficient recycling system" proposed in the 14th five year plan. It has also been written into the action plan for reaching the carbon peak by 2030 by the State Council, which means that not only 46 key cities should further improve the level of domestic waste classification, but other cities need to take action, accelerate the establishment of a domestic waste collection, transportation and disposal system covering the whole society, and fully realize classified delivery, classified collection, classified transportation and classified treatment.
In order to understand the current situation of domestic waste classification in different cities and communities accurately, identify the problems, and assist urban management departments to improve the classification management of community domestic waste, the public environment research center (IPE) and Vanke Public Welfare Foundation jointly launched the activity of "lighting up community waste classification with hand" (hereinafter referred to as "hand shooting") in 2020 under the guidance of China Environmental Records Association, NGOs, volunteers and community residents in many places have actively participated in the activity. Up to now, a large number of field photos and questionnaire data have been accumulated, reflecting the waste classification status of tens of thousands of communities in hundreds of large and medium-sized cities.
Since 2020, IPE, together with 29 environmental protection organizations and volunteer teams, has carried out random photography activities in 28 key cities, focusing on observing the classification of community waste in the main urban areas of the city. More than 50,000 random photos have been accumulated in more than a year. It is the first time in China to systematically observe the classification of community waste through data crowdsourcing. In order to present the current situation of community waste classification in different communities, districts, counties and cities horizontally and vertically, IPE developed and designed the community waste classification index (GSI) based on "random shooting", and evaluated the waste classification of ten key cities, hoping to contribute to the experience exchange and common development among cities.
In order to help cities and communities further improve the level of waste classification, China Environmental Records Association and IPE, with the support of Vanke public welfare foundation, plan to hold the "summary of environmental protection 'waste classification at your fingertips' activity and the 20th environmental tea house" on December 15, invite leading cities in the community waste classification index (GSI) evaluation to share their experience, and invite representatives of governments, academics, enterprises, non-governmental organizations, media and other relevant parties jointly discussed environmental protection and waste classification at the fingertips.
